Show Me The Monet
I recently entered one of my conceptual art pieces to a show being filmed for BBC2 looking for undiscovered artistic talent in the UK. I made it through to the televised phase where I found myself in front of a panel of three judges debating the merits of my work. For me the experience was thought provoking as well as educational. In particular the question of emotional engagement posed by David Lee, one of the panel, has stuck in my mind for some time now.
My piece, "Connectivity" is a composition of electrical sockets, plugs and wires, representing choices, decisions, power and connections. The question that I ask myself is how far can I go with these very abstract constructs to express more emotion in my pieces. It is quite a challenge and one that I feel is important o to address as my work progresses.
Art In Relfection
Over recent years, art has become increasingly more important in my life. Art has the ability to stir emotions deep within us and bring them to the surface so that we may experience them. Each piece has a different impact on each observer because the art not only expresses itself but helps the observer to express his or her feelings toward it. The realization of art is as much in the emotions of the observer as it is within the paint on the canvas.
For me art provides a wonderful outlet for my feelings and a way to express them in new ways. I use art not only to reflect my own sentiment on various subjects but also to study those sentiments and in turn learn more about myself in reflection.
Statement Of The Art
Statement of the art is the main site for my artistic endeavours. It includes a variety of works from designs for walk through installations, to comical art and loop video. The installation work is an extension of architectural space planning into the realm of art to provoke the people within the installation to observe each other in different ways. I developed the loop video work as a kind of static film or animated picture. They are designed to be hung on a wall and played in continuous loop mode.
